The Macromedia Flash registration point explained
When you work with Flash you will need to learn more about the registration point, so what is it?
The registration point is the default location of an object from which an object's
horizontal and vertical co-ordinates are determined.
Its that little crosshair that appears in the center or corners of the object you create
after you convert them into a clip etc.
In the example below i just drew square, selected it, pressed f8 to
convert it into a movieclip, i kept the registration point centered and pressed ok. After i did that it looked like this example preview.
Below is a small pic of the popup menu that appears when you convert an object into a symbol. (like a movieclip)
You can specify the "registration point" right here.
When you just create some image like some vector drawing, and you dont plan to animate it then you dont really
have to worry a lot about it. When you do want to animate stuff it becomes a fact that you will
have to know about the registration point. Seeing is believing so i made a small example below.
Just press the rotate buttons and they will rotate around their registration point.
You will notice the difference in rotation!
They all rotate differently because they all have their own registration point set to something else. Just have a good look.
Conclusion
I hope this little exercise was useful to you. Dont worry too much about the registration point. Just keep on testing things out, like create some square, convert it onto a clip and give it some rotation. Then double click the movieclip, shift around the square and crtl-enter again to see the effects. If you have any questions please don't be shy and post a message in the forum.
