Adding the navigation to the Flash Stage

Below you can see the library open with the clip "navBase" selected.


If you have the "navBase" clip selected in the Library then drag it onto the navigation layer on Stage. If you placed it there, select it and with ALT selected drag it to the right. This creates a new copy of this object. Now you should have two of those "navBase" clips on stage. Select on of them again, drag with ALT selected and create two more.

You now should have 4 instances of the "navBase" clip on stage. Select the first one and give it an instance name "homeNav". (Lower left side in it properties box). Do the same for the others. Check the image below and order and name them like that. Its important to use the exact same instance names i use or else the Actionscript code we will add won't work! If you are completely lost please refer to the source file and check the setup in there!


Now because we will will place then into the correct position with Actionscript it isnt important to place them on Stage on the exact spot i did. We will trigger a little effect on our home page, and to make that work we should now place the navigation clips like i did in the image below. So in each corner of the stage on the navigation layer! Again check the source file to see how its done if you got confused.


The last things to do now before adding some code is: select frame 20 on the navigation layer and press F5. This made sure the navigation is visible on all our frames.

I am ready for some code now .. although we still have to setup a few things for later, we will now jump into a bit of code. Im going to activate the navigation between the pages and the navigation movement effect will be setup. As i said we will use these great tweening abilities get our transitions going. PLEASE DONT let this intimidate you. Just download their component and install it. Thats the only thing you need to do. After you did that you can follow along with the description of the actionscript in here to see it in effect immediately. If you think you don't need this little gem you are very wrong ;) ... It will save you loads of time and it enables us to for example move things around with one line of code instead of loads of lines and physics applied etc...
